ROLE SUMMARY

We are looking for a FinOps Engineer with a passion for cloud cost governance and optimization within Google
Cloud Platform (GCP). This role bridges engineering, finance, and product teams to identify, implement, and
measure cost-saving opportunities across the GCP estate. The ideal candidate combines deep GCP technical
knowledge with a data-driven analytical mindset and a track record of delivering measurable savings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own the GCP FinOps practice: establish cost visibility, accountability, and optimization workflows across all
business units.
• Analyze billing exports, Cloud Asset Inventory, and usage data to identify rightsizing, commitment, and
architectural savings opportunities.
• Recommend and implement Committed Use Discounts (CUDs), Sustained Use Discounts, and
preemptible/Spot VM strategies.
• Partner with engineering teams to redesign cost-inefficient architectures (e.g., BigQuery query optimization,
idle resource cleanup, storage tiering).
• Build dashboards and automated alerts using Looker, Data Studio, or BigQuery BI Engine to surface real-
time cost trends.
• Develop and enforce tagging/labeling standards to enable accurate showback and chargeback reporting.
• Identify and resolve cost anomalies; lead root-cause analysis on unexpected billing spikes.
• Drive monthly FinOps review cycles with engineering leads and finance stakeholders.
• Stay current on GCP pricing changes, new services, and discount programs; evaluate impact on spend.
• Document cost optimization findings, decisions, and playbooks for organizational knowledge management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or data engineering experience with at least 2 years focused on
cloud cost management.
• Deep expertise in GCP billing: Billing Exports, Cloud Asset Inventory, Recommender API, Cost Tables.
• Hands-on experience optimizing GCP services: BigQuery, Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage,
Dataflow, and Pub/Sub.
• Strong SQL skills for querying billing and usage datasets in BigQuery.
• Experience building cost dashboards and reports (Looker, Data Studio, or equivalent BI tools).
• Working knowledge of Terraform or other IaC tools for provisioning cost-governed infrastructure.
• Familiarity with FinOps Foundation frameworks and best practices.
• Excellent communication skills; able to translate technical cost findings into business impact for executive audiences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• FinOps Certified Practitioner (FinOps Foundation) or GCP Professional Cloud Architect certification.
• Experience with multi-cloud cost management (AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management).
• Background in cloud billing automation using Python or scripting to programmatically manage resources.
• Exposure to Kubernetes cost tooling (Kubecost, GKE cost allocation).

SCHEDULE & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS

• This role operates on a 16×5 coverage model — 16 hours of daily coverage, Monday through Friday,
supported by two shifts.
• Morning Shift: typically 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM local time (exact hours confirmed at offer stage).
• Evening Shift: typically 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM local time (exact hours confirmed at offer stage).
• Shift assignment is based on team coverage needs; willingness to rotate may be required on a periodic
basis.
• Cost anomaly monitoring responsibilities may occasionally require response outside standard shift hours.

SKILLS AT A GLANCE

• GCP Billing & Cost Management · BigQuery · SQL · FinOps Frameworks · Looker / Data Studio
• Committed Use Discounts · Terraform · Cloud Asset Inventory · Chargeback / Showback · Python
